ARTICLE:JewelryLessons.com's Expressions Monthly Themed Event |
Description: Welcome to JewelryLessons.com Expressions, a fun way to promote inspiration and artistic creativity through jewelry challenges of all media.
Challenges: Not to be confused with contests which are judged and reward prizes, we will hold monthly challenges with themes to promote creativity and inspiration amongst designers. Positivity: When an artist requests feedback on their challenge entries, offering suggestions and constructive feedback on design construction, colors, fit with the challenge scheme, etc., are always welcome. In a nutshell, our mission is INSPIRATION! We all look for inspiration in one form or another, and we believe that monthly themed challenges will get everyone’s creativity flowing. Fran and Jodi have ideas for upcoming themes and will also post requests for everyone’s input on themes from time to time. We are not necessarily looking for holiday or seasonal themes, not to say that we won’t have those types of themes from time to time, but we will be throwing everyone curve balls, the unexpected theme, to keep us all on our “creative toes”! Ever want to create something, just ready to twist some wire, light a torch, string some beads, crochet, melt some glass, embroider – you name it - use one form of your creativity media and ….. blank. We hope that JewelryLessons.com Expressions will help fill in the blank! Because JewelryLessons.com Expressions holds challenges for inspiration and creativity, the rules are simple: Be original, post as many theme related entries as you like, and enjoy making jewelry and/or jewelry components together with this great community. When the designer requests feedback, lend a hand. Challenges will not be judged or rated nor will prizes be awarded. New theme challenges will be announced monthly. JewelryLessons.com Expressions is excited to announce their FIRST CHALLENGE for MARCH 2009: HIPPIE theme! That’s right – get out those old photo albums from the 60s when life was all about peace signs, The Beatles, long hair and headbands, Volkswagen buses, the flower child, and gettin’ your groove on. So come on! Let’s see what you can create in tribute to that great “Hippie” decade! TO POST YOUR ENTRIES: Entries will be posted to the Gallery. Under Category, be sure to select category JL.com's EXPRESSIONS and under Sub Categories, select MARCH 2009 HIPPIE. Franchezka and Jodi came up with the idea of a monthly event when Jodi mailed Fran some "challenge" beads. They thought it would be fun to have an ongoing inspirational challenge with changing themes.

I have a question from a friend:
Hi Fran,
It sounds like alot of fun! The only concern I would have would be that I might miss quite a few of the challenges during times when my family life gets really busy and I have to set jewelry making aside to take care them. If that would be okay with everyone, then I would be happy and excited to be a part of it. Thanks very much for inviting me. :-)
Answer:
No, you can join the group when you want. It is not mandatory to make piece the year long, but if you see that you can do it....well, let me tell you that I would like to see your designs!!
Franchezka

kristym Peace-Love-Dove! I remember cause I was there, man, like wow! Hacky Sack, Love beads, peace signs, bell bottoms, flower power, maryjane and LSD, long hair, choker collars, headbands, platforms, tie dye shirts, painted VW's...ahhhhhhhh...those were the days. Count me in too. This sounds so fun.
This will be fun and I like the idea of a curve ball every now and then.
Omigosh, Witchy - now I feel OLD!! :-P
@fwwatson; eh, oops!Sorry, I didn't mean too!!
hehehehe, don't worry Witchy and fwwatson, my daugther always asks about the 60's and 70's and...come on, I was just born in that time!!! hehehe
Hi there, could I post a picture of a woven piece that I have done for this event, just to give some inspiration. I participate in a 'Year Of Jewellery" here in New Zealand and it was my first piece and so fits this theme.
Yes, of course! It is all about inspiration. I have been wracking my brain, wondering what to make and this morning the lightbulb went on.....now to see if I can actually execute my idea....hhmmm.

Witchy, totally kidding! No worries. (My daughter once asked me what kinds of things people used to write with in the "olden days." After my long answer about quills and inkpots, she looked at me with great pity and said, "I meant when YOU were in school." LOL!!)
To be a hippie you must believe in peace as a way to resolve differences among peoples, ideologies and religions. The road to peace is through love and tolerance. Loving means accepting others as they are, giving them freedom to express themselves and not judge by appearances.
The Hippies do not impose their beliefs on others. Instead, hippies seek to change the world through reason and live as they believe. Imagine no possessions, there is no need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of men. Imagine all the people sharing all the world.
John Lennon was close to me...
Yes, and John Lennon said "all you need is love" and this is the truth!!!!
Well said Fran and Rita! True love for world peace and inner peace as well.

How fun! I was born in the middle of the 60s, but hung out with a bunch of hippie wannabes in high school, so I kind of know the scene. Hmmm, my memory from back then is a bit hazy, but I can probably come up with something. :)
