Ruinedart

By ruinedart - Posted on 19 August 2008

I’ve created in one form or another for as long as I can remember, but became actively involved in mixed media about two years ago. I was soon introduced to Yahoo groups, which in turn exposed me to an enormous array of artists and a dizzying variety of art. It’s been an exciting and often overwhelming time, but it’s been time well spent. In that process I’ve learned a lot about myself. Most importantly, I’ve learned which genre excite me and satisfies me the most deeply – for someone who’s first response to anything pretty is ‘I want to make one too’ , that’s no small feat!
My goal is to take these things I’ve learned about myself and my chosen media and develop a partnership. I’m still exploring , still acquiring skills, and I expect to do that for the rest of my life - I wouldn’t have it any other way. The difference between this step and the last is that I have developed more focus – I’ve moved into a new stage of my journey.
I’ve found creating jewelry rewarding in a very surprising sort of way. Wearing a creative piece of jewelry connects me tangibly to that part of me that never really leaves the table. Even when I can’t be there physically there is a constant undercurrent in my mind, a stream of dialogue that is always about my art, and my jewelry has become my touchstone. Hearing the stones and charms making their particular music and feeling their weight against my skin while I’m doing more mundane chores keeps me connected and comforted until I can get back to the table.
Jewelry art makes a unique, visible statement about who I am and what I love, and frankly I like that. It makes me feel good to wear it, and even better to see it being worn by someone else! Trust me when I say going to the grocery instead of the art table becomes slightly more fun when you get to wear something handmade while you’re there. Who says you can’t take it with you?
You can if you’re wearing it. . .
