Turquoise Criss-Cross Wrap

Description:

A very talented friend of mine made this Russian Spiral beaded necklace for me. It has inspired me to create a pendant that goes with. I wrapped a turquoise cab with 22 ga. square copper wire and finished the ends of the necklace with copper bead caps and a handmade hook with an extension chain.
Thanks Dawn for the gift of this wonderful beaded necklace.

This is so beautiful! I love the necklace, it looks like a lot of work, that is a really lovely gift. I also like the way you wrapped the stone. Is there any tutorial for it? I would love to learn how you made it. :D
Thanks for showing this.
Jana

Great look! The two elements work very well together. I also love the treatment of combining the rhomboidal stone with the (interlocking ?)curves. [Can you also square a circle? LOL]

Hi Jana,
Thanks for what you said about the necklace. I posted some more pictures so you can see the back. I don't have a tutorial as of yet to tell how it was made but I hope the new pictures can help you see what I did to make it. I think you should give it a try. You never know until you just dive in.

Hi Lisa,
WOW! Speechless! The back looks great too. :D
Thanks for the pics, I can see now the idea of how you made it. I think I have seen some tutorials which show the basic steps for this, and I can give it a try :D
Thanks so much!
Jana

Hi Becky!
What a nice comment! Thanks!!!!
Yes you can square a circle! lol But I usually circle a square. The use of possitive and negative space to make a shape within a shape is one of my favorite things to do. This necklace had a linear quality to it so I was hoping the lines of the criss cross wrap on the stone would harmonize well with it. I am extremely happy you like it. That just makes my day!
Thanks!

Hi Jana!
I am glad the pics help. I'd love to see your piece if you make one like this. I am happy to have helped inspire you.
:D

Arya

Thanks Amanda!
That's a very nice thing to say!

Hi Arya!
Thanks for your really great comment. I am paying attention to the back these days, ever since I got ragged on about it--Ha! Sometimes we all need a kick in the butt to help us see things more clearly.
:)

Holy cow. This is absolutely stunning. This looks a little like the criss-cross you did on the back of that smokey quartz - is it the same basic technique? This is really, really gorgeous.

Wow, Lisa! This is gorgeous! )) The both sides of the pendant are beautifuly done! I love it))
Taniri

I was wondering when the inspiration would hit you as strong as it must have with the woven bezel:) I am shaken by the infinite beauty of this design as a whole; russian twist and pendant are like one. I can not imagine one without the other. Could't be paired better than this....

Lisa both of you made a great job....the two pieces together are stunning and very well matched....BRAVE!!!!!

Hi Francesca!
Yes, it is similar to the quartz pendant from a while back. The difference between the two is that I criss crossed the bottom section of the wire wrap in this one (which is harder) and with the smokey quartz, I criss crossed the top section, (easy) next to the bail.
Thanks so much Fran!
:)

Hi Taniri!
I am so happy you like both sides. I did try to make the back look decent. There were certain things I had to do with the wire but I tried to make it look attractive enough.
Thank you so much.
Lisa Barth

My dear Ozlem,
That is about as wonderful a comment I could ever hope to receive. Thank you from my heart.
Lisa Barth

Hi Monica!
I hope you are well! How is your family?
Thank you for the great comment. I really tried to make the two pieces go together.
Big hug from me!

Just lovely.

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa....
You never cease to amaze me. The beaded cord is stunning. Not to mention that the color combination is exquisite. Even if the piece isn't "Sleeping Beauty" turquoise, it sure makes you think about it. This piece is so rich. I really think you should consider putting together a book proposal.

Absolutely stunning!!! And you made the pendant 2 sided - both of which look amazing on the russian spiral.... The look of the pendant with the russian spiral is a PERFECT 10!!!!!!!

Thanks Leayn!
I appreciate the comment very much!!

Hi Dawn,
You sure got that right about the turquoise not being Sleeping Beauty! Ha! It is pretty rough, but it was the right color and the right shape (and it was just sitting there in my stash) so I gave it a go. I am very happy you like it.
I have thought about writing about a book proposal. In fact, I am designing pieces that teach skills in line toward the more advanced pieces that I make. It takes time to develop these things and do it well. Thank you for seeing that I could do it. You don't know how encouraging that is to me!
