Please help!

I used to crochet in the past and assumed it was like riding a bike but with me that wasn't the case. I love this cuff so much I thought I would dive right in. Although the tutorial is written well I am still having a problem with the second row. Is there a name for that type of sticthes that I could do a little researching to better understand it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Would it be helpful for you to practice it with crochet thread first to get your hands back in the groove of crochet?
