Question about step 1
January 10, 2010
Hello,
I feel really dumb but I can't keep wasting wire! Is there a secret to step 1? I tried using the 4inch size wire and I can't get 9 coils at either end. I am a little confused how to know where on the wire to start the loop so that you know you will have the same amount of loops on the other end. Please help! I would really like to try this tutorial but can't get past step one!
Thanks,
Megan

You don't need to have exactly 9 wraps for this step. Your goal is to make sure the bead is centered. The key is to wrap once or twice on one end, then the same number of wraps on other end. Keep switching from one end back to the other end so you have exactly the same number of coils on each side of the bead so it's centered.
The exact number of coils you have will be driven by the amount of wire you have after making the two loops at the ends of the wire. The bigger those loops, the less wire you'll have for wrapping on either side of the bead.
Yes, that is correct: in a perfect world you would have exactly the same number of coils, however.... this is a very imperfect world. As long as both sides are more or less the same length, you are good. What we want to avoid is when you have a side that is really long and one that is really short. Then you are going to run into trouble.
