Where to buy jumprings?
May 29, 2009
Can you tell me more about the jump rings? I have a jumpringer, but do not know if these are inside diameters, outside diameters, or what.
Also do not know what gauge of wire.
I need to know this before buying tutortial.

Hi
I bought jumprings here:http://www.firemountaingems.com
The jumprings are outside diameters. The wire for the twisted ring it is 16GA, and the others are 18GA. The numbers to find the specific jumprings on the site are:
H20-3558FN Twisted Jumpring, gold-plated, 10mm
H20-1409FN Smooth Jumpring, gold-plated, 10mm
H20-3554FN Twisted Jumpring, gold-plated, 6mm
Lena.
Gauges change by size/diameter, shape and manufacturer. They come in round and oval popularly, and I have even seen some square and triangular types, but I'm sure those were custom made. The smaller the outside diameter (OD), the higher the guage number will be in most cases. To add to the message above, FMG sells TONS of jumprings in TONS of sizes, finishes, metals, etc. From base metals to plated metals to SS to GF to copper to I believe Argentium, to K gold, to I think even gun metal. They come in plain metal and twisted-metal designs that look more like small sections of rope. They are really inexpensive if you take advantage of their quantity discounts. But, even though I have TONS of their jumprings, when I run out, I will make my own. They're just too easy and much less expensive than even cheap. Have you thought of that?
You might be interested in looking at Kingsley North's new "jumplocks" by the way - they're locking jumprings you don't have to solder and they won't open up under reasonable weight and wear. They come in gold-filled and SS and are priced at 9.95 and 7.95 for 50 in the 4mm size. I'm planning on buying my own just because they make so much sense to me. Hope this helps. Marian
Thank you sfbeads.
Jumprings are usually described by their inside diameter (i.d.) and guage of wire.
With that information and my jumpringer I can easily cut hundreds of jumprings.
