Woven Bezel bead
July 01, 2009
Lisa, I want to make your woven bezel pendant and need to order the large hole bead. How large should the hole be? About how large should the bead be. Where are they available? After seeing all your beautiful variations I can't resist any longer even though I haven't done much weaving.
Thank you. Barbur

Hi Barbur,
Thank you so much for your kind words. I hope you love learning to weave wire as much as I do.
The size hole you need in the bead is about 3 mm. I wouldn't want to go much smaller than that because I thread four wires up through the hole and that takes room. The size of the bead itself depends on how big your pendant will be. I usually use an 8 mm to a 10 mm size bead but that is up to you. I do sell the beads on my web site in accessories because so many people were asking me where to get them. So I went out and bought a whole bunch so they can be easily available. You can also drill out the hole of a bead that you already have. I have done this many times using a titanium drill bit and a hand held drill. A bead reamer may work if you need the hole just a little bit bigger.
I will be happy to help you learn in any way I can so please email me and I'll get back to you.
Thank you for asking!
Happy weaving,
Lisa

Remember you also have the option to make your own beads, any size and color you like, of polymer clay. You can determine the size of the hole when you make the bead so no drilling necessary!
JKJewelry, You just read that I'm new at weaving and now you want me to add making polymer clay beads to the list, I'm already tempted to learn to soldier, to do filigree!!!!:^) I did do polymer clay with my art students, they/I loved it. When one likes to do creative things there are never ending opportunities. I love it, I need to live to be 150.

LOL! The jewelry maker's "toolbox" of techniques is never full, is it?
