TUTORIAL:

3 Toggle Clasps

Uploaded on: Dec 29, 2009
Level: Easy
Description:

In this tutorial I will be showing you how to make 3 different Toggle Clasps, with metric measurements as well as inches. Three Toggle Rings and three Toggle Bars, 6 pieces in all. They will all be interchangeable allowing you to mix and match as you choose. Oxidize them or leave them shinny, hammer them for a more organic look or leave them smooth and round, wire in beads for another look. These designs are basic and flexible giving you a strong foundation to get creative.
This tutorial was intended to be more than just a pattern. My intention with this tutorial is to teach you techniques and tips (as well as a pattern) that will hopefully help you to develop good working habits that will transfer to all your projects. A simple design well done is far more attractive than a complicated design done with poor technique. Paying attention to the little details and developing good technique and good workmanship habits is the answer. There is a lot of detail in this tutorial which is why there are so many steps.
If you choose to download this tutorial I hope you enjoy creating these beautiful and functional Toggle Clasps.
Thank you for looking.

This project was originally posted in the gallery as a necklace with the Amethyst Puzzle Wrap http://jewelrylessons.com/gallery/amethyst-puzzle-wrap There were requests to add the Toggle Clasp to the Puzzle Wrap tutorial. The tutorial got to large so I wrote two separated tutorials. The link to the Puzzle Wrap tutorial is http://jewelrylessons.com/tutorial/crystal-puzzle-wrap

Post a Tip about this Tutorial

Great tutorial as always Pat! Thanks for posting this fun and useful lesson.
Eni

Thank you so much Eni. Making your own toggle clasps can really personalize you piece while allowing you to match it to your project. I developed these designs because for some projects I wasn't quite able to get the size toggle or look I was after.
Pat............:-D

I love toggle clasps when needed for the right project,so many times we can't fine the right size, these are perfect to personalize your project.
Feelingstone

Yes Jackie so true that's how these clasps came into being. Not only was I having size and style problems but some of the bought clasps kept coming un-done. So I decided to create my own. Now I can custom make the clasp to suit the project. Nothing like having control over your design.
Thanks for the comment....Pat......... :-D

Thanks! I like the idea of making toggle claps matching the individua style of the jewlery.

Yes lisejuul, it is a practical and beautiful way of put just the right finishing touch to your creations. You can choose the size and style to compliment your piece. And for a variation you can wire in beads to match your necklace or bracelet on the toggle clasps. :-D Thanks for your comment.
Pat......... :-D :-D

I'm making a necklace right now that I can't seem to find the right clasp for. This looks like it will solve my problem. : O ) Thanks!

So glad you will be able to design the clasp you need for your creation. Remember you can mix and match the Toggle bars and Toggle rings to get just the look you want. Thanks for the comment LinRose and good luck with your necklace :-D :-D
Pat.......... :-}

I've always wanted to make my own toggle clasps. They can be expensive and don't always fit what you thought of for your design. Thanks for giving us 3 different ones.
Tina

Thanks for the comment Tina. These are 3 basic and very useful designs that you can dress up with beads if you like to match your necklace or bracelet.
