In this tutorial you will find detailed instructions for creating the beautiful pendant pictured here. Some knowledge of etching with Ferric Chloride is helpful, but not necessary – in this tutorial are detailed instructions for how to achieve this look – it’s not as intimidating as it seems, I promise! (And it’s a heck of a lot of fun – like magic..:)

Step by step detailed instructions with clear and instructive pictures for each step will make creating this piece easy and fun. Material List:
  • 1 piece of 18 gauge sheet copper – 1 ¼” x 2”
  • 6” of 26 gauge copper wire
  • Found twig of your choice
  • Two donut shaped stone beads of your choice
  • 30” of 2mm antiqued copper rolo chain
Tool List:
  • 220 grit Sandpaper
  • Liver of Sulphur
  • Drill with small bit
  • Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer or Renaissance Wax
  • Emery nail file
  • Black sharpie marker
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • 2” wide painter’s masking tape
  • Ferric Chloride
  • Round nose pliers

You definitely should try it Mary Ellen - I was intimidated before I tried etching, soldering, sawing, wire wrapping, enamels, resin, and everything else I've tried....LOL The point is the fun in trying, not in a "perfect" result, and even the "scary" ones like chemicals and torches are really fun once you try them - you'll get addicted, trust me......:)
