TUTORIAL:

Carry Me - Gemstone Point Cap

Uploaded on: Sep 05, 2008
Level: Advanced
Description:

The woven cap "carries" the stone in a beautiful, yet subtly graceful way.

I wanted a way to wrap gemstone point beads that didn't have the "been there, done that" feel to it. So, after playing around for a while I came up with this design. I liked this design so much I decided to do a tutorial for it.

This tutorial has instructions for two types of bails. One that is a "clip on" style that is great if you are using a ready made chain for neck cord with findings too large to fit through the bail. The other is a standard bail.

Beautiful design! Would this work with undrilled stones?

I haven't tried it with undrilled stones yet, but I did try it with a coral branch that had a couple of lumps near the top of it. For that one I made sure to keep the weave real tight around the lumps and especially underneath it and it held. You would have to do the bail differently though.

I bought this from gailavira in her etsy shop. Great tutorial! excellent pictures and very well put together.

This is really really pretty. Is the stone required drilled from side to side?

Hi Kristy. Yes, the stone for this tutorial has to be drilled from side to side. Once I can stock up on wire again I'm going to see if I can figure out a way to use a non-drilled stone without having to use glue.
