Description: This lesson shows how to trouble shoot a few of the problems that may occur while making coils with the gizmo. A lot of my lessons use this tool and I thought some of my experience might help save some wire. I also show how to make a large pair of hoops with coiled coils. Price: $0.00

I really love using my coiling gizmo and have nailed it to a piece of wood so that I could take it anywhere and it gives me leverage so I don't have to hang on to anything except the wire.
Denise, Thanks for the comment, I think it would be great if you posted this as a tip. Maybe include the size of wood you use and how to do it or even a picture? You know a picture is worth a thousand written words.

Thanx you so much for the lesson!Very good tips! I love using my gizmo however, it is constructed rather simple compared to yours. The gizmo I own does not have the bracket and the 'handle" does not curve under, it is just a straight "T"
bar. I will be shopping for a new one today!
ringring, You are very welcomed we are all beginner at one time. Never give up!! I know you will love bending wire. If you get a chance share a picture of your pretty jewelry. Hugs

radiantlight, You are very welcomed. Your T coil will work to you just have to work with it a little different when feeding or wrapping the wire to the the stick. There should be a hole in the T part in which you can feed your wire through to start the coil. Just go easy wrapping the wire around the stick. It take a little getting use to just the T stick, but once you get the hang of it you will be making tons of coils. Just have fun and if you get a chance share a picture of your pretty jewelry art. Hugs

I'm a beginner with wire work, as in, I haven't done ANY yet, and I'm about to ask what is likely a very dumb question, lol. Where can I get a gizmo?? O.o I must have one! Seems to me that it would be a very handy tool! Thanks!

Dear Ravin, You can get this tool at most all bead and craft stores. And if you do a search there are way too many place to get it here on the internet. This web site is where I got mine really cheep http://www.widgetsupply.com/page/WS/PROD/wire-tool/XUJ2-1100-74 I have also posted how to make a home made one http://www.jewelrylessons.com/tip/how-make-homemade-gizmo I hope this helps.

Oh, wow, thank you so much! I really appreciate the help. I am so excited about trying my hand at wire work, it's something that I told myself for uncounted years, thatt I'd never be able to do. Having gone through some of the tutorials, I'm starting to think maybe I can do it! Here's hoping! lol

Dear Lindarosa,
Thank you so very much for the wonderful tutorial (and free!!). I didn't like coiling itself because all the time I was doing my own hands or the tools my husband bought for me to make jump rings. That was too much! I decided to buy the coiling gizmo after reading your tutorial and now, I tried with reading the tutorial again. Wow! Why didn't I buy a lot earlier?! Now 1 problem...As you wrote in the tutorial, it's really hard to take off from the stick after the coiling, especially the coil is long and the wire is a little bit thicker, like 20G or 22 G. I tried what you wrote here, but still it's really hard...Finally I used the flat nose pliers to take off but of course, the enamel was removed... Do you have any idea how I can control this???
Thank you again and a happy new year!
Michie
Dear Michie,
I am not sure exactly what is wrong but, I did have a few of the coiling sticks that were made wrong. One end was a little wider. You can check this with a wire gauge. One student took a file and shave down the end. But if you bought it at a store you maybe able to exchange it for a new one.
I also notice that when holding the wire that you are feeding on to the stick too tight will cause the coils to be tight and harder to remove. So just try and lightly hold the wire so it will not flop around and make kinks.
I hope this helps a little.
Thank you and Happy New year to you too.
Hugs Linda
Dear Linda,
Thank you for your reply.
I found the ending part of the stick was not so smooth...I don't know why...I put a little bit hand cream before coiling and coiled not too tight and/or just before taking off, put some hand soap. Then it got much easier to take off.
Thanks a lot!!
Michie
Thanks for the tut. Well done. I'm not exactly a beginner, but I too have been coiling with my hands and find it hard. Just how much does one cost? Any ideas of where to get a good one at a reasonable price? Thanks again; the tutorial was very informative. Lauri Chaise JSLDesigns
