Framed Cabochon Pendant Tutorial

Uploaded on: Nov 01, 2008
Level: Advanced
Description:

This lesson shows how to make a cabochon into a stunning wire wrapped pendant. The minimal, swirled frame allows the beauty of the gemstone to shine through. This tutorial is for making the pendant only, not the chain or clasp.

This is an advanced level tutorial. Because your cabochon will probably be a different shape and size to the one used in the tutorial some measurements will need to be discovered by trial and error. If you’re not confident about figuring out your own measurements try to find a cab close to the size and shape of the one used here.

I tried this and I have to say that it is a wonderful tutorial! I posted the pic of the finished piece and I got lots of compliments (on another forum though).
Erin is very talented!

Thank you so much Gaby!! You did such a beautiful job on it and I'm really happy you enjoyed the tutorial :)

I had been waiting for this tut, as I guess it wasn't ready yet when I first went to look. I wanted to say, this has been a very long wait worth while as it is so beautiful. What is the stone you are using? Thanks for sharing for sure, it is stunning. Pam

Thank you very much Pam!! The stone I've used is a Chrysocolla from China - it's really beautiful with greens and blues that almost look like islands in the sea :)

Take care,

Erin

Beautiful pendant!
Would it be possible to use a pear shaped bead for this? Or would it be too fiddly?
Laura

Hi Laura, thanks for your question!
This tutorial needs a fairly flat backed cab to work. If you'd like any help finding a suitable cab just let me know.

Take care,

Erin :)

Love it!!!

I have this tutorial...AND I actually own the labradorite necklace pictured in the tutorial. Erin is fabulous and has an incredible talent not only in her stunning work, but as a teacher. Her tutorials are beautifully done and easy to follow!

I love this tute Erin - Spike has some cabs coming in this shape, might have to swipe one to use for this, but I think I'm gonna try it with the point down - whataya think?

Bobbi I think this would look GREAT with the point down.

Simple yet Stunning! The description is correct in that it states that it lets the beauty of the stone shine through... another on my growing list for this summer!

This pendent is beautiful! I have only been doing wire-wrapping for 2 months but I loved this so much I thought I would give it a try. The instructions and pictures really helped me create a nice pendent! Although I need more practice I am thankful for the beautiful creations on this web-site that help inspire and motivate!
