TUTORIAL:

Knotted Headpin

Uploaded on: Sep 27, 2008
Level: Beginner
Description:

Headpins are used very often when creating jewelry. If you have a torch, it’s easy to create your own headpins. However, if you don’t have one, or if you are like me and don’t trust yourself with a torch, buying pre-made headpins may seem like the only option.

This tutorial teaches you to make your own decorative headpins without the need for a torch.

The earrings in the second photo were made using these headpins.

The tutorial calls for 22g wire. This makes these headpins great for heavier beads. However, if you would prefer, you can use 24g wire instead.

Post a Tip about this Tutorial

Thanks for giving another option for headpins. :)

Gailavira,
Thank you, I will try it tomorrow with a pair of earings. I think it can be a fantastic solution when you have not pins or to make some originals too.

Wonderful! I never thought I would make my own headpins because I also don't trust myself with a torch! Thank you:-)

This is such a cool idea, thank you for posting the tutorial! I have used fiber techniques adapted to silver, but have never thought of using "knots" . Something to explore more!

Thank you...you are so generous with your knowledge. I will try this tomorrow.

This is just the info I needed! I am trying to finish a project but had run out of gold filled headpins. Now I can make my own. Thanks

What a great idea! I like to make my own findings and will definitely use this beautiful headpin. Thank you.

Very cute! I think I will make these as little dangles for a project I'm working out in my head. Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you so much for a sharing a great idea! I have really enjoyed using this headpin in my designs. It transfers well to heavier gauges too. I love it.

Thank you for such a clever idea! I used it to make head pins, then decided to try to make a length of knots separated by beads, using your technique. I ended up with a really cool bracelet!

I really like making my own head pins. These are the prettiest ones I've seen and your instructions are great. Thank you.

Thank you cannot wait to try to make these headpins

What a pretty headpin! I'm way too accident prone to be trusted with a torch, so this is a great idea for me :)

Thanks for sharing your tut!

Thank you tried it right away and like it. I don't have a torch yet so this works for me. Nice design too.

That's very creative and helpful for me. Thanks.

I love this tutorial - I have made so many pretty earrings using this idea. Thanks so much!!

thank you!

This is great. I panic when I get low on headpins. These look really attractive. Can't wait to try them out. Thankyou.

A simple easy way to make a headpin thanks so much for sharing I love this idea

Oh Thanks so much!
Neat idea! Love it.

Great idea and a great effect - less 'formal' than commercial head pins and much more original. They have an sinuous, organic feel to them. Great with spring colors and styles... like your neat earrings!

Thanks so much for this great tutorial! I've been looking for beaded headpins for prom jewelry, and they're expensive! This will certainly do the trick!

Thank you so much for sharing!!
