Post a Tip about this Tutorial

What a great idea Dawn, could you use a photo? Can make it any shape? You could put a border wrap around it also and make it a wire wrapped pendant. Very nice!

They make a white paper for the printer that you can print photos on, but I haven't had very good luck with it. I just print my photo on paper then use it as my guide for the colored pencil painting -- I think they turn out much better. I tried wire wrapping one today and it came out pretty good, so I will probably wire wrap my entry for the annual art show this weekend. You can make it any shape you want!www.dawnebryantdesigns.etsy.com

Im curious about this, but dont really understand the whole process.Without compromising your tut can you tell a bit more about the shrink wrap process.Im just not familar with this method of pendant creating. Thanks

Cabella,

This is done on special shrink plastic that has a special coating for use with colored pencils. I do a colored pencil painting on the paper itself, then shrink it down (just like when we were kids -- except that stuff came out a bit late for me). This is just a "grown-up" version of Shrinky Dinks!

Thanks for explaining that.Drawing anything is not my strong point lol.I kinda figured out the shrink wrap because of gift baskets I have made and and used a similar but different shrink wrap.Geez Dawn you can draw to!!! I think i just shrunk :0)

Pat,

Art is what art is -- some people create out of their heads and paint it, or sit in the fresh air and paint what they see. I have to work from a photograph or I get nowhere. I never throught I could draw either, but colored pencils added a whole new world for me. Check out my blog on my profile to see where to learn how to work with colored pencils from the person I learned from.

Pat,

In looking at this again, I don't think I answered you very well. This process is very easy, even for those who don't draw well (including me). The tutorial gives the technique even for non-drawers, allowing you to take it to whatever level you are comfortable with.

Dawn

I like everything about this..

Thanks Jackie! It sure is a lot of fun!

Dawn

Do you copy from a picture or is your little pieces of art free form?
feelingstone

Jackie,

I use one of my own photographs as a guide when I do these, but you can certainly do freeform art -- I have done both.
