TUTORIAL:

Weaving in Closed Spaces

Uploaded on: Jan 03, 2009
Level: Intermediate
Description:

Weaving in a closed area presents some challenges. This tutorial covers two separate techniques that are used in tandem to create a tight, even, and neat weave in areas like this. This is a Step by Step method with specific tips.
The photos show a piece already in progress at a point where the method can be easily seen, but the method applies no matter what stage the weave is in. The example shown is a simple over/under with 1 and ½ wraps between, done with 3 frame wires. However, this method applies no matter what wrapped weave pattern you use.

Hi Perri,
pew! (*sigh of relief*) - no embarassing revelations, this time :-D
Seems I've done nothing wrong so far.
Nevertheless many many thanks for this detailed tutorial and the numerous "STOP"-signs, and showing really each and every small step. I am sooo grateful you found the time to put it clear with so many great pics! AND offer it for free! Hail to Perri, my Bountiful Wire Goddess!

Hi Perri,
Excellent tutorial, thank you SO much! I kept thinking as I read, "Kim, Perri is teaching you how to wrap mindfully." It helps so much to break the process down, understand each motion fully, and simply concentrate on the completing of it...then STOP, consider the next motion, and proceed.
I'm so excited about this whole 'back to basics' series! Thank you so much for sharing your secrets, and to do it for free is just so generous.
I'm with Jutta. All Hail to Perri!! Wire Wrapping Goddess Extrordinaire! She blesses us with secrets from heaven! ;-)

Perri, you're a STAR!

Jiminy Crickets, folks! I don't think I can live up to that praise! But thanks, just the same.

In truth, you have hit the nail on the head, Kim! Wrapping mindfully! nice phrase! I realized a long time ago that in handwork, people sometimes get frustrated because they want to work fast, NOW! That is possible, but you need to SLOW DOWN, first - just for a bit!
All of this was really brought to life for me recently by my Granddaughter - I have her with me 2 days a week, and have the time to see how she learns. You'd be amazed at how fast it can be, if she is helped to analyze the intricacies.
I just applied the concept to our work. As the song says - "teach your parents well..." Thanks again, so much, I'm glad this has helped!
But I AM reserving the 'goddess' part! LOL
